wong gonzalez

412 E Grace St, Richmond, VA

When you can't pick between Asian and Mexican cuisine, a nifty little joint near downtown Richmond by the name of Wong Gonzalez may be able to assist you. With dishes full of bursts of flavors and cocktails that play into the fusion as well, there is a lot of fun to be had when experimenting here.

With all the staples like tacos, nachos, and bao buns at the forefront of the menu, it may be easy to miss little gems like the Buddha bowls or options where spice levels are taken up an ante. Fresh fruits and vegetables more on the tropical side are paired with savory meats, rices, and rolls. It is evident that letting go and trying something new is crucial here, and that is appreciated at times when the restaurant industry may seem saturated and boring. Plates come out filled with food and glowing with color.

When you walk into Wong Gonzalez, there is a long bar to the left and booths and tables to the right. There is a bathroom with a large Farrah Fawcett print on the wall and another with a large John Travolta circa Saturday Night Fever. You can find spin-off restaurants in the burbs called Wong's Tacos which specializes in exactly what you might assume. The lighthearted nature of the interesting fusion food, in addition to the setting and decor, makes Wong Gonzalez an easy choice for something unique.
