1907 Texas Ave, Richmond, VA

Imagine it's a sunny and balmy summer day, you grab a few cold drinks and head down to the river. There are a surplus of gorgeous and more secluded spots along the shore of the James River, but a spot that has a special hold on my heart is none other than Texas Beach, a part of the North Bank Trail.

Over the last several summers that I've been in Richmond, I have met countless friends down at Texas. Sometimes hoards of people flock to Texas on a particularly nice day, so it's important to know "the spots" where it's more likely you'll find wannabe hippies who want nothing except to chill. Sharing joints and nestling up in a hammock with someone is typical protocol in certain stretches of the trail. The gentle flowing of the river pleases both visually and audibly. In quiet areas, it's a tranquil and optimal setting for some meditation and peace. In the areas dense with people, you're sure to have a good time.

There are posts on the RVA subreddit that discourage people from broadcasting "the spots" at Texas. The thought here, presumably, is to keep the magic contained so as to not oversaturate and offset "the vibes," but I say let the people go. There are options in other parts of Richmond along the river that allow for solitude. Texas Beach has immaculate energy that ought to bring fun-loving people together. I joke that Belle Isle is for "normies," while Texas is more for the eccentric type (still love you Belles). All of the wild and crazy trips down to the big old stinky river will be cemented as fond memories for me.
