Lamplighter's last standing location is a mere few blocks from my apartment, so suffice it to say I've ventured over there my fair share of times. I also visited their now-closed locations in the Fan and in Scott's Addition (which now houses the equally wonderful Afterglow Coffee Cooperative).
It is truly special to find a local coffee shop that almost completely tickles your fancy. The simplicity of its branding, the fun and delicious non-coffee options they tout (house made ginger ale, anyone?), and the knowledge and care the staff so clearly has for their craft. Lamplighter stands out to me as my neighborhood coffee staple - and it does have worthy competitors. I have tried a variety of their food and drinks, there has never been an instance where I detected a shortage of quality, it's there each time.
I rummaged through my Instagram archives to include the matcha latte pictured above. Perhaps I also stepped out on a limb by including snaps I shot from the nearby Byrd Park and pedestrian bridge right down the street from Lamplighter. There have been many cool, brisk mornings I stopped by Lamplighter for an Americano or a trusty Black Eye. After fetching my drink I'd walk over the bridge to the park, thoroughly enjoying both the invigorating warmth and rich flavor it emitted.
