I had very little experience (see: none) with Cuban cuisine, but my closest friends in the city spoke so highly of Kuba Kuba, I had no choice but to go. The allure of the neon lights that illuminate its name into the evening feels inviting and enticing, and upon stepping inside you're quick to notice its cozy and intimate space. The service may have been spotty but that does not discredit this spirited joint.
After sharing appetizers (empanadillas and an avocado salad), I ordered a Cuban sandwich. It felt like the right thing to do. I was absolutely blown away. The taste and texture of the bread alone sold me, but the meat was also flavorful and it was garnished beautifully upon being served. A culinary feat of sorts.
Candles, mugs, hot sauce, and Biblical prophets lined a bookshelf situated behind the table we were seated at. String lights adorned the perimeter of the restaurant. It was a Wednesday night, but there was not an empty table to be had. The crowd felt lively but still contained, the closely placed tables somehow didn't feel too stifling. Kuba Kuba has undeniable charm and the bread, OH the bread!
