jefferson park

E Marshall St, Richmond, VA

There is something that should be said for a park that can still emote feelings of peacefulness right in the middle of a busy city. Jefferson Park overlooks Richmond's downtown and provides a beautifully framed view of the city (especially at sunset), and it's near a lot of great food spots if you want to picnic.

I've had a picnic a number of times at Jefferson Park, typically always around sunset since watching the sun go down over the city buildings in a park that is quite quaint is a simple pleasure I will snatch up at any and every presented opportunity. People are always walking by on the path that goes around the perimeter of the park, and there may be children playing at the playground, the sprawling nature of the grounds allows for those seeking some solitude and calm to still be able to find their nirvana of sorts.

Below I have inserted technically a cheat photo since it was one taken by my mom years back and it is not on a shaky cam, rather it's on a pretty nice smart phone. I couldn't help but include it because it captures the compelling aura that is created when nightfall starts hitting at Jefferson Park. The city lights twinkle and park goers are more sporadic, making it so the faint rippling of a central water fountain and distant sound of traffic on the interstate are all that you hear on a nice summer's night.
