jardin

1520 W Main St, Richmond, VA

"Jardin," a word some may cringe to hear uttered by some uncultured buffoon (like me). It translates to "garden," which conjures up images of fresh and succulent fruits and veggies mixed with stunning pops of floral delight. Jardin brings to Richmond an approachable wine shop with tasty snacks to eat with it.

The same brainchild behind Church Hill's Grisette brought us this joint, which means while it may have an elevated flair, it is still full of a kind of heart and warmth that only Richmonders can offer. Upon stepping down into what is essentially a wine cellar, patrons are met with rows and columns riddled with wines from various regions and grapes. Each wine bottle has a helpful and often cheeky card attached to it, detailing what to expect. This proves great for both wine connoisseurs and novices alike.

After purchasing a few bottles and perhaps a decked out charcuterie plate, patrons can venture out into the outdoor seating area. As the sun sets lower, the twinkling string lights feel irresistibly romantic. Pairing sips of wine with different cheeses allows for new aromas and flavors to emit. It's hard not to feel luxurious when you're sitting outside on a gorgeous evening, nursing your orange wine between chats with friends. The simplicity of Jardin's concept is a beautiful thing, and so too is their execution.
