garnett's

2001 Park Ave, Richmond, VA

Let's suppose you want a sandwich. You're leaning towards cold but you could do hot. You aren't too concerned with the frills, you're no-nonsense. Garnett's, a small corner restaurant in the Fan, is what you're searching for. Plan on arriving earlier than you think you should, it fills up rather quickly.

Something that adds to Garnett's already obvious charm is the park nestled across the street. There is a picnic bundle where patrons can get two sandwiches (and their sides), and an option between beer or wine... complete with a picnic basket! Quirky artwork and prints line the wall that is seen as you're first walking in. You can see the entire restaurant no matter where you're sitting, it's snug in a comforting way. The sandwich options are remarkable and I found it hard to pick between the tempting sides too.

The simplicity of a sandwich is a beautiful thing. Pick a handful of complementary things to smash between two pieces of whatever kind of bread. The way it can hit the spot is noteworthy. I went for the tuna niçoise sandwich which was not too fishy and not drowning in condiments, which sometimes can be a bit much in my book. The prices are right, perhaps even under what they ought to be. Sandwich lovers everywhere surely must find their way to Garnett's at some point, it isn't a place you want to miss.
