4 N Thompson St, Richmond, VA
Richmond's health conscious market was first introduced back in 1989, and in the last several decades it has made an impact on the community by supporting local businesses and farmers in its store. Ellwood Thompson's may have a higher price point, but it is well worth it, as evidenced by the quality.
The store itself is not overwhelmingly large, yet it still houses many departments and an in-store juicery and coffee spot. The wine selection is in the back of the store, and offers a lively selection broken down by region and hitting all the price points. Those looking to purchase strictly organic produce and other pantry staples will not run into a shortage here. Ellwood's is the sort of market where taking your time to shop around feels more fun than it does a chore. There is always something different to be found.
The prepared food that is packaged and sold fresh daily is situated on the left side of the store. On the right you will find produce and innovative beauty and health products. The center of the store is where you can peruse the aisles. Whether you're looking for obscure items such as quail eggs or simply want to indulge in a fun snack, this is the spot. I could not imagine Richmond without Ellwood's, which may sound dramatic, but it is such an integral part of the community that I think such a statement is justified.
