edo's squid

411 N Harrison St, Richmond, VA

Do you ever dream of heaps of pasta, almost too much for you to remotely handle, served to you in an unconventional upstairs restaurant? Does a no-nonsense menu with all the Italian staples you could ask for sound appealing? Edo's Squid may be located on the VCU campus, but its flavors are all grown up.

After going up the stairs, you'll find that you are not in fact lost but this is precisely where you need to be. An open room with the kitchen and bar tucked away in one corner boasts plentiful seating for couples and groups alike. We were fortunate enough to be seated by a window and were able to see virtually everything going on inside. It was graduation weekend and we arrived early to line up outside. Edo's is no stranger to being so popular, it's often one of the top Italian recommendations I've heard.

The wine menu is extensive but we paid no mind to that. We settled on a round of bubbles and then martinis to top it all off. Fried squid (or as we know her, calamari) was our appetizer with a spaghetti and meat sauce and penne with gorgonzola and peas as our main events. The service was prompt and friendly despite the space (pictured below) filling up to capacity by the end of our visit. The charm of Edo's is undeniable, I went years back and again recently, and it's kept the same quality and humility.
