901 W Marshall St, Richmond, VA
The first time I visited Cobra Cabana, I remember standing out front on their patio, commenting to a friend that hanging around outside on a tucked away corner behind the hustle and bustle of Broad Street felt reminiscent of being at a house party. That's the thing about Cobra, it really feels like home.
The patio in the back of the restaurant is where the comfortable, familiar feeling of a chill, no-nonsense backyard hangout truly radiates. A fun tiki bar is situated right at the back patio entrance, signalling to patrons that they're here to kick back and have a nice time. The front door has their mantra "NO JERKS" emblazoned on it, reminding everyone that it costs nothing to be kind. The beer selection is great and appeals to the masses, and the cost there is low and reasonable. The food options are hilariously named and cater to those who are both carnivorous or prefer to stay on the vegan side of things.
I would be remiss to not mention perhaps my all time favorite cocktail in all of Richmond, "Bears Beets Battlestar Galactica." This gin-based bevy boasts beet puree, ginger beer, agave, and lemon, and offers a unique and refreshing sensation upon being quaffed. I will forewarn newcomers to the joint that the indoor bathroom is plastered with images of clowns, so if that's your phobia of choice, maybe opt for the porta potty out on the back patio. The clowns are another reminder that Cobra Cabana is both fun but edgy, that when you're there you shouldn't take yourself too seriously and simply enjoy "the vibes."
