I'm the first to say that the r/rva subreddit is full of the harshest critics. Frequenters of the sub will downvote you to oblivion for seemingly no reason. However, when I saw that the posters of r/rva were raving about Brazen, I knew this place had to have some sort of inexplicable, undeniable appeal.

I was last at this location when it was the restaurant Lucky Whale, which would certainly not make it to shaky cam's list. Brazen came in, guns abrazen (sorry) and a whole new spot with its own charm and personality took over the location. This restaurant is especially cool to me because one of my friends helped with adorning it with greenery, and another pal is running around helping run the whole production. I loved the simplicity of the decor, the menu, and the overall "attitude" emitted throughout.

A beet salad stands no chance when I'm around, and honestly neither do mussels. Both dishes were packed full of flavor and a keen attention to detail. We nearly got our "foodie" cards revoked when we opted to order a side of mac and cheese, but the photos we saw online were all too tempting. I opted for a mocktail this go round, and it was anything but lacking. You can see even the color itself made a pop. It'll be exciting to see how Brazen evolves and grows from here on out, r/rva was onto something.
