beaucoup

111 N. Robinson St, Richmond, VA

There is something to be said about the simple elegance of an oyster. It may seem peculiar to describe something a tad gritty and certainly slimy from the abundantly salty ocean as "elegant," but when you're within the confines of the new restaurant Beaucoup, it sorta just happens to feel that way.

The space itself is limited but there is a charm to it that is undeniable. The bar is lively and the tables are situated closely but not in a way that feels too invasive. We were tempted to try a few of the oysters that were on the back board, but opted for a great happy hour deal of some lynnhaven fancies. The mussels were served with an absolutely addictive broth in which I shamelessly gulped down. The cocktails were excellent, I appreciated the way one was served with a stainless steel straw to ensure maximum iciness.

The menu has enough options that aren't oysters to keep someone in the group who may not necessarily get down with oysters satisfied. The setting is inviting and not overdone. It would be worth it to even just come in for a brief visit during the happy hour to get some oysters at a terrific price. Perhaps a dirty martini as well if you're so inclined. Beaucoup comes from the same brilliant individuals who have already graced this city with Grisette and Jardin, so even though it's new, it is well executed.
