bamboo

1 S Mulberry St, Richmond, VA

When you ask the Internet (read: Reddit) where a good dive bar is in Richmond, floods of people will comment that Bamboo is the place to be. Posted up on the corner of Main and Mulberry Streets is the small yet charming space that is quite known for their generous pours and tasty bar food selections.

Something that I love about Richmond buildings is the tiled ceiling that exists in a number of notable places. Bamboo is no exception to this. I also appreciate the eclectic trinkets such as the waving fortune cat that is pictured below. I have sat up at the bar and in some of the booths and the service is always great no matter where you sit. There is something warm about the wood paneling that lines the perimeter of the building, it makes the small space cozy and definitely adds to its dive bar appeal.

Bamboo is also in great company with Helen's down the street. If someone wanted to do a bar crawl, there is essentially a line of bars nearby each other on Main Street. The people who frequent Bamboo tend to be very friendly as I have chatted it up with randos at the bar a few times. If you'd like to people watch outside there is also seating there. Bars that are in my neighborhood are ideal in that I am able to walk there and back with no problem, and between all the options I have, Bamboo feels like a favorite.
